NearBytes Web Plugin Extends Communication System to Include Computers as Well as Smartphones

(PRWEB) September 19, 2013

NearBytes can now be used with the NearBytes Web Plugin to offer even more possibilities for developers that want a proximity communication system.

NearBytes Web Plugin list of features:

Available on all popular browsers and Operating Systems;
Allows communication between computers and Mobile devices;
Uses sound to encrypt, send and receive data;
Computer only needs a microphone and speakers.

Benefits:

Simple – requires no special hardware or capability;
Reliable – devices and computers don’t even need to be online, or have GPS enabled;
Robust – works in noisy places;
Universal – will run on Windows/Mac/Linux, on Explorer/Chrome/Firefox/Safari;
Safe – sound degradation and other safety features guard against interference.

“Communicating between mobile devices and web browsers will bring computers into the NearBytes ecosystem and open up a whole set of new possibilities,” said Icaro Martins, Senior Software Engineer at NearBytes.

The NearBytes and NearBytes Web Plugin combination can be used in a lot of different applications such as financial solutions, customer loyalty solutions, games, POS physical and online stores. This system is a simple yet powerful tool for integrating solutions for e-commerce, marketing, promotions, events, and of course, access to content pages, or to any sites that require login and password systems.

The NearBytes Web Plugin is already available for installation on browsers such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Mozilla Safari and Apple Safari, and on the most popular operating systems: Windows, Mac and Linux.

In the NearBytes Developer’s Area, registered developers will find complete documentation to start testing and bringing their applications to life. The tutorial shows, for example, how to integrate the NearBytes Web Plugin into a web application. With a few basic steps you can experience the NearBytes technology in a web browser. The developers only need some basic knowledge of Javascript to start including the NearBytes Web plugin into web applications.

When the NearBytes Web Plugin detects a valid NearBytes sound the information is sent from the smartphone to the application on the computer. And a web browser can also send data to a mobile device, using the NearBytes Web Plugin. Communication can occur in both directions if necessary.

“There`s a test page for people who`d like to see it in action. The NearBytes communication between smartphone and computer can be tested here, in order see it`s potential and possible applications,” explains Jefferson Pita, Senior Software Engineer at NearBytes.

1) Install “The Flame” on a smartphone for free using Google Play or iTunes.

2) On a computer (desktop/notebook) download and install the NearBytes Web Plugin. After the installation, make sure that the computer`s microphone is active and working properly.

3) Point the browser to http://www.nearbytes.com/theflame/counter.php.

With the site open on the computer, hold the smartphone close to the computer`s microphone, having installed and opened “The Flame” app. Tapping the candle on the smartphone, emitts a sound signal, and the flame on the web page will be lit. The counter on the page will register the interaction, demonstrating, through this simple example, the great potential for this invention: transferring data using sound between a mobile device and a computer.
